Howdy ya’ll. Today we will get back into the Old World Series, this time focusing on the first photographs ever taken in Scotland. They are from the capital city of Edinburgh, and the images are dated from roughly 1844 through roughly 1859. Our photographer is Scotland’s own Thomas Keith, a pioneer of wax paper process photography, and a noted surgeon. We will briefly discuss Keith’s life, while then dabbling into the history of Edinburgh. The most notable feature, and a key component to the history, appears to be Edinburgh Castle. Sometimes called The Castle Rock, Edinburgh appears to have been fortified even before documented history of the area occurred. We will browse through a detailed collection of the images taken by Thomas Keith, with a focus on Edinburgh Castle. Enjoy! Topics discussed today; (surgeon) (Edinburgh)
