Moving and navigating through ice-covered waters, icebreaking ships require features such as a reinforced hull, a shape to clear the ice, great momentum, and robust engine power to traverse the icy land. Icebreakers are of paramount importance in ice-covered regions, where it is necessary to make waterways accessible by clearing the ice sheets. Here they are one of the biggest icebreaker ships rocking the world. What is an icebreaker and how does it break ice? For a ship to be considered an icebreaker, it must have three characteristics that most normal ships lack: the power to push through thick ice, a reinforced hull, and a way to clear ice. That allows icebreakers to break through pack ice or frozen waterways. To effectively break the ice, icebreakers must be very powerful, relatively short, wide, and extremely heavy. Icebreakers break through the ice using momentum and power to push the bow onto the ice. The ice is pushed down by the weight of the ship, causing it to break into pieces. The icebreaker's hull then pushes the broken ice out of the way as it goes. Icebreakers are specially designed for this and have a drooping bow, large displacement (weight) for their size, and plenty of power. In addition, they are specially reinforced to withstand the force of the ship hitting the ice at high speed. The hull is very thick and is made of steel that can withstand low temperatures. At the same time, in order to be able to maneuver in the icy waters, icebreakers have sloped sides and bows. Additional reinforcement is required for the bow, as it is mainly used to cut through the ice and find it first. While other boats have a pointed bow, icebreakers have a more rounded structure that helps the boat navigate over the ice and push it down with its weight.
