Produzidos pelo estúdio estadunidense Selig Polyscope em 1898 com direção de seu proprietário William Nicholas Selig. 1) Duas versões filmadas, sendo a segunda extendida, apresentando um casal de afro-americanos se beijando com paixão. Os protagonistas são o compositor teatral Saint Suttle fazendo par com a atriz de vaudeville popular Gertie Brown. Ambos eram dançarinos de cakewalk e estavam no estúdio para outros trabalhos, sendo apanhados de improviso, ou seja, sem terem ensaiado antes, para estas filmagens. 2) Ambas as versões eram consideradas perdidas. Em 2017 a 1ª versão foi redescoberta e restaurada por Hugh M. Hefner, que possui os direitos autorais da restauração. 3) Com essa redescoberta, em 2021 a Biblioteca Nacional da Noruega corrigiu a catalogação de uma 2ª versão extendida lá preservada, que antes supunha-se ser um filme não catalogado de Lumière. 4) É considerada a obra cinematográfica mais antiga ainda preservada que apresenta um beijo entre personagens não-brancos. 5) Para assistir a 1ª versão sem a apresentação: 00:00:30. The protagonists are theatrical composer Saint Suttle paired with popular vaudeville actress Gertie Brown. Both were cakewalk dancers and were in the studio for other work, being caught impromptu, that is, without having rehearsed before, for these shoots. 2) Both versions were considered lost. In 2017, the 1st version was rediscovered and restored by Hugh M. Hefner, who holds the copyright for the restoration. 3) With this rediscovery, in 2021 the National Library of Norway corrected the cataloging of a 2nd extended version preserved there, which was previously assumed to be an uncatalogued Lumière film. 4) It is considered the oldest preserved cinematographic work that features a kiss between non-white characters. 5) To watch the 1st version without the presentation: 00:00:30.
