Rainer Cocq, a retired Danish businessman who owned the ’miracle’ holiday home (left) on La Palma with his 80-year-old wife Inge Bergedorf, confirmed that it has since been swallowed up by lava from the island’s volcano. Speaking from Denmark, where his main home is, Mr Cocq said on Tuesday that the couple have lost the house along with 9,000ft of surrounding grape vines that they were due to harvest in the next few weeks. ’Everything is destroyed,’ he said. ’We have lost everything on our beloved island. It is very sad. Inge and I are devastated.’ He spoke as lava from the volcano - which has been erupting since September 19 - dropped into the sea overnight (right), kicking up a cloud of steam that experts warn may be laced with hydrochloric acid and tiny glass particles. People living in three neighbourhoods have been told to stay indoors and shut their windows as a precaution. Original Article:
