On 10 June 2004, Prince Charles, Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker Bowles visited the newly-refurbished Prince of Wales Theatre in London to meet members of Swedish pop sensation ABBA as well as the cast of the ABBA musical ‘Mamma Mia!’. In the theatre foyer, the future King and Queen met band members Anni-Frid ‘Frida’ Lyngstad (full title Princess Anni-Frid Reuss, Dowager Countess of Plauen) and Björn Ulvaeus, before Charles was invited to unveil a sculpture of the theatre commemorating his visit. ABBA shot to fame when the Swedish four-piece won the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest with their song ‘Waterloo’. In May 2023, nearly 50 years later, Sweden were once again winners of Eurovision, Swedish artist Loreen winning top place with the song ‘Tattoo’. It was the second Eurovision win for Loreen, and the seventh win for Sweden since ABBA’s 1974 victory. #ABBA #PrinceCharles #PrinceOfWales #PrinceOfWalesTheatre #CamillaParkerBowles #BjornUlvaeus #AnniFridLyngstad #FridaLyngstad #MammaMia #KingCharles #KingCharlesIII #CharlesIII #QueenCamilla #Camilla #Eurovision #Sweden #Loreen #Waterloo #EurovisionSongContest To license the footage featured in this clip, follow the link below: To search the ITN Archive collection on Getty Images, follow the link below: 🎥 Subscribe to our YouTube channel (tap the bell icon and stay up to date with all the latest ITN Archive videos!) - @ITNArchive 🎥 Follow us on Twitter - 🎥 Like us on Facebook - 🎥 Check out our TikTok - @itnarchive1955
