What is Forgiveness Sunday in the Orthodox Church

What is Forgiveness Sunday? Forgiveness Sunday takes place every year in the Orthodox Church the day before Clean Monday, the beginning of Lent. And on Forgiveness Sunday we focus on making amends. Now we do this with Forgiveness Vespers. Forgiveness Vespers is a service, a short service where at the end of it we go around to everyone in the church and say “Forgive me a sinner“ and then the response is “God forgives and I forgive“. And the goal of this is to make a good start towards this penitential season by asking those in our very own Community for forgiveness whom we have most likely offended in some way whether we know it or not.
