Visit Bill’s online store for exclusive and signed items: Drum solo excerpt from Earthworks Paderborn. I’m not sure I like this particularly; too many notes and not enough space. It’s much easier to play a note than leave one out. But I think for my style it makes sense to lay the drums out flat like this. I took that idea from the tympanist of the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra, who was giving a demonstration one morning at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC). He just swivelled left and right so easily from the hips, with the mallets at the same height for each tympanum. It’s not where you take it from that counts, it’s where you take it to. If you’re interested in percussion and drums, go to one these Conventions if you can. Highly informative.
