As great as muscles and self-defence cannot truly protect a person even in this physical world, and they offer much less protection in the spiritual world, if any at all. But Jesus can protect in the spiritual and in the natural world. He has the greatest name in heaven, on earth and in hell. Jesus laid down his life and went to hell in the place of all sinners, however each person must accept this free gift of salvation. The bible says we do so by declaring with our mouth that Jesus is Lord. Jesus Christ has also made it possible for us to be united with the Spirit of God who is the power of God and He is able to make us conquerors in life.
