Ethiopia has signed an initial ‘memorandum of understanding’ with Somaliland, a breakaway region of Somalia, to utilize the Red Sea port of Berbera. In return, Ethiopia would formally recognize Somaliland as an independent nation, making Ethiopia the first country to do so.
