Germany’s Carnival / Karneval season began in Cologne / Köln city on 11th November 2021 under strict restrictions, because of a surge in new infections. I am walking at the Kölner Altstadt (Old Town) which was not as crowded as the Heumarkt, where many costumed people celebrate Carnival. At the end of this tour I head back to the Cologne Cathedral / Kölner Dom. The season starts every year on 11. November at 11:11 AM, and reaches its climax on Rosenmontag / Rose Monday in February of the next year, featuring a huge parade called Rosenmontagszug, which has many interesting caricature figures of recent topics or public figures, through the streets of Cologne. Karneval ends on Aschermittwoch / Ash Wednesday. Usually days before the Rosenmontag people already gather up to celebrate the event on the street while wearing various costumes. Cologne / Köln is the largest city on the Rhine and also the 4th largest city in Germany after Berlin, Hamburg and Munich. Is is one of the most important commercial and cultural centres of Germany, home to numerous museums, galleries, arts and entertainment venues. The city is well known for the Cologne Cathedral which is Germany's most visited landmark, attracting an average of 20,000 people a day. Enjoy this 4 HDR video walk recorded with binaural audio.
