Visit Visit our website One of the many episodes of the TV program “High and Wild“, hosted by Don Hobart, this episode dates to the 1960s and shows a trip to Florence, Oregon to do some bass fishing along the Oregon Coast. This episode was directed by George Wasch. Florence, Oregon is famous for its sand dunes which completely surround the city. The Pacific Ocean is on one side of the dunes while various freshwater lakes are on the other. At 2:32, Don Hobart begins talking about the city of Florence, Oregon. At 3:34, you see Siltcoos lake, one of the best fishing lakes on the Oregon coast. At 4:44, Don Hobart and Roy Mccurdy head out to do some bass fishing on Siltcoos lake. At 5:06, you get a close up on the weedless hooks that are used for the bass fishing and the techniques that the master bass fisher uses to catch fish. At 10:44, the fishing is done, Roy Mccurdy caught six fish in total. At 12:14, you get to see some of the catfish that were caught by other fishermen. At 12:30, you get the first look at the dune buggies, these vehicles are specifically designed for climbing up huge sand dunes. At 15:15, Don Hobart starts talking about the golf course in Florence. At 16:29, you get to see the shoreline of the Oregon coast. At 16:54, Don Hobart talks about the sea lion caves, a special place on the pacific coast where many sea lions gather. At 17:39, Don Hobart shares the process of taking pictures of the sea lions. At 19:52, Don Hobart begins talking about the sea lion pups. At 23:12, Don Hobart ends by discussing everything that has happened in the episode Don Hobart was a pioneer in the adventure television industry, and “High and Wild,“ which originally aired on Portland's KGW, was among the first outdoor shows to air anywhere. A decorated WWII fighter pilot, Hobart flew P-40s and P-51s with the Flying Tigers in China. A spirited outdoorsman who owned an archery shop in St. John, Oregon, Don Hobart could fish, hunt, hike, and climb with the best of them. The 52 episodes of “High and Wild“ took Hobart from the North Pole to Chile, with dozens of hunting and fishing adventures in between.
