The “eight treasures” in Chinese traditional culture include rhinoceros horns. They were made into cups for the apparent purpose of drinking liquor while the majority of rhinoceros horn cups were celebrated for their aesthetic value rather than their practicality. The Shanghai Museum has always been dedicated to preservation, study, and display of ancient Chinese art since 1952. It is now home to over one million artworks, 140,000 of which are national treasures. Selecting out 25 pieces from its world-class collections of ancient Chinese bronzes, ceramics, paintings, calligraphy, etc., this series #TreasuresinShanghaiMuseum broadcasted from today will usher you into a universe of cultural preservation and protection. Two episodes will be released every week. Follow our YouTube channel for more in-depth videos.
