Today was a perfect opportunity for the likes of Mark Cavendish, Jasper Philipsen and Wout Van Aert to contest a bunch sprint as the peloton had a break from the alpine mountain stages. While simple on paper, this is another innocuous-looking day that could soon turn into an all-out GC war should the prevailing winds in the Rhône valley play ball. The last time the Tour finished in this neck of the woods, back in 2017, race leader Chris Froome profited from the crosswinds and put a sizeable chunk of time into both Dan Martin and Alberto Contador. Expect a similar scenario this year if the winds blow; if not then ready yourselves for yet another hectic bunch finish. Subscribe to GCN for cycling as you have never seen it before!
