A tense standoff between Iran and the US erupted after helicopters from a US warship strayed into Iranian territorial waters. The USS Bataan was traveling through the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Iran when it involuntarily received an escort of speedboats and drones from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. Video, released by Iran, shows the warship being trailed, and a tense exchange of hails. The Bataan hailed the Iranian navy, saying ‘this is a coalition warship. I am engaged in transiting passage in accordance with international laws.’ However, the return message was much more belligerent: ‘US navy warship. This is Sepah navy station. Your helicopters are in the vicinity of my vessels and Hengam oil field also, sometimes going into Iranian territorial water. Advise you to take them on your boat and do not enter into Iranian territorial waters. If you do not obey my orders, we will open fire on your helicopters. Over.’ After the warning, the Bataan appeared to comply, and landed its helicopters. The US Navy has acknowledged the Bataan was in the area at the time, but has not commented otherwise on the incident. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Freedom over censorship, truth over narrative.
