On this day in 1965, 21,000 U.S. troops were sent to Vietnam. Here is a British Movietone report from Operation Masher in 1966. “Operation Masher“, a combined American, South Vietnamese and South Korean assault against the Viet Cong. The death toll inflicted on the Viet Cong guerillas and North Vietnamese troops is one of the highest of the whole war and at least 700 are believed to have been killed.
