This video shows how to simulate the air flow around a three blade savonius turbine using the dynamic mesh tool on Ansys Fluent. Also, the data of the simulation is exported as a text file, using these some relevant quantities, such as the force on the turbine, its torque, angular speed, power, etc, can be calculated and plotted. The calculation of the angular velocity may need some explaining. Given that on the turbine wall the velocity of the fluid is the exact same as the velocity of said wall(because of the non slip condition), the maximum velocity on the turbine is calculated as “max_vel“ as shown in the video. That maximum velocity happens on the point of the turbine wall that is the farthest from the center of rotation, which is at a distance of [m], which you can measure from the geometry. After that, you have Vel_max = omega R, then omega = Vel_max/R and finally omega = Vel_max/[m]. Which is the expressión used for the angular velocity. #Ansys #AnsysFluent #CFD # AutoDesk Inventor.
