Morass is another word in English for a marsh, swamp, bogland, etc. In other words, an area of boggy or muddy ground that is difficult to traverse without getting stuck. However, we most often use the word morass to refer to an overwhelmingly complicated and confusing situation; a situation that is difficult to deal with and which impedes progress, making it almost impossible to accomplish anything; an unpleasant situation that is hard to resolve; a difficult and perplexing state of affairs.
