Finale 12:26 Nikolai Budashkin (1910--1988) was one of the most eminent composers of Russian «estrade» music, a new genre of music from the first half of the 20th century born in the former Soviet Union, a genre that united the best of classical and folk music. The young composer was awarded the Stalin Prize for his popular and accessible compositions, most clearly represented by his works for Balalaika ensembles and Balalaika orchestras (which were often inspired by folk music). The Legend of Lake Baikal is a beautiful example his work; the composer employed artful reminiscences of «Lara's Theme» in one of the picturesque scenes from this moving piece. «Dazzling! Inimitable!
