Swami Dattatreya Rama Rao Parvatikar (1916-1990) also known as Veena Baba was a sannyasi and musician and a skilled player of the Rudra Veena and the Dattatreya Veena or Datta Veena, which he invented by blending the Sitar, Swarmandal and Rudra Veena. The French musicologist Alain Daniélou made recordings of his performances between 1950 and 1955. They are now part of a UNESCO project - UNESCO Collection of Traditional Music of the World. As a tribute to Alain Daniélou, UNESCO re-issued the album on 1997 as Anthology of Indian Classical Music – A Tribute to Alain Daniélou. From the little known about him we can gather that he was not too much involved in professional performing, rather exploring his Sadhana of spiritual practice and music as well as teaching both of them. He started a Nada Yoga School in Rishikesh in the late nineteen fifties.
