This iconic Chaparral 2E took part both at the 2017 and 2018 editions of the Goodwood Festival of Speed. At first I thought it was the original 2E but then I discovered that Jim Hall, Chaparral founder, along with former GM engineer Jim Musser, announced a strictly limited edition “continuation of series” of the 1966 Can-Am racer back in 2005 which would have been built and sold to historic racer. Chaparral cars are so well known for having been always unconventional compared to their opponents. The 2E is probably the most iconic one (yep, I have not forgotten the 2J fan car) for mainly two reasons: of course the big moving and tilting wing mounted 140 cm above the rear of the car but also for the rear mounted radiators. It was powered by a (327 in³) Chevrolet V8 engine, able to produce around 450hp, which was mated to another famous features of Chaparral 2 cars: the 'automatic' transmission. It was a great advantage because it allowed the driver to focus his attention on braking rather than downshifting while taking a corner. (I suggest you to read this article with a focus on Chaparral's gearbox: ). The Continuation Series is practically a perfect replica of the 2E, but with minor differences, such as the engine which is now a (350-cubic-inch) Chevy V8 able to produce 524 hp at 5600 rpm and 780 Nm of torque 4200 rpm. It is linked to a three-speed transmission used on every Chaparral Can-Am and GT Endurance racing cars from 1966 through 1970. #Chaparral #Chaparral2E #CanAm --------------------------------------------------------- I have to thank my friends and youtubers Italiansupercarvideo () and NM2255 () for the great collaboration done during the event.
