“Sweet Rain“ is a jazz album by Stan Getz, released on the Verve record label in 1967. I've been a Getz fan for over a half century, and vividly remember when this album was first released (the same year I joined the Navy). I view this as his third phase segueing from an identifiable Lester Young influence to Brazilian and into this freer style. Actually, there was a short bridge between the Lester Young influenced style and the Bossa Nova phase, but it flew by quickly. Listen to the sound samples on this page and you will hear Getz backed by a rhythm section along the same lines as Scott LaFaro and Paul Motian backing Bill Evans or Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Tony Williams backing Miles Davis and Wayne Shorter. The rhythm is free and flowing, even on tracks like O Grande Amor where the rhythm section is loosely tied to formula of Brazilian music. On this album Chick Corea on piano, Ron Carter on bass and Grady Tate on drums prove to be on the same level as the aforementioned rh
