Hezbollah’s long-time leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, who led the group for over 30 years, has been killed by Israel in a series of strikes on Hezbollah’s underground headquarters in Beirut, both Israel and Hezbollah confirmed. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced his death on Saturday after speculation following the Friday strikes in Dahieh, a southern suburb of the Lebanese capital. Later, Hezbollah, backed by Iran, confirmed Nasrallah's death, saying he had “joined his fellow martyrs” and vowed to continue their fight against Israel and support for Palestine. Hezbollah did not mention who would succeed Nasrallah or how they would respond to his killing. Gunfire was heard across Beirut as mourners fired into the air to honor his death.
