Chion-in Temple is the head temple of the Jodo Buddhism sect in Kyoto. The temple has over one million followers and is famous for its Sanmon Gate. Chiron-in Temple was built in the 1600s. It’s Sanmon gate stands at 24 meters tall, 50 meters wide. It’s Japan's largest wooden gate. It leads you to the massive Miedo Hall, Chion-in’s main building. Miedo Hall houses a statue of the Priest Honen, who founded the Jodo sect in 1175.
