just fun and knowledge How to make origami umbrella that open and close / DIY / origami umbrella / paper crafts Making an origami umbrella that can actually open and close is a bit challenging, but it is possible with some patience and skill. Here's one way to make it: Materials needed: Square sheet of paper Scissors (optional) Glue (optional) Instructions: Start with a square sheet of paper. If it's not already square, fold one corner over to the opposite edge to create a triangle, then trim off the excess to create a square. Fold the square in half diagonally to create a crease down the center. Unfold the paper and fold it in half diagonally the other way to create another crease. Unfold the paper again and fold each corner to the center of the paper to create four smaller triangles. Fold the paper in half along one of the creases to bring two opposite corners together. As you do this, the smaller triangles will start to pop up and form a pyramid shape. Hold the paper with the folded edge facing up and the point of the pyramid facing down. Fold the top layer of paper down along the center crease to create a smaller pyramid on top of the larger one. Fold the top layer of paper up again, this time along the outer edge of the smaller pyramid. Repeat this fold on the other three sides of the paper. Carefully open the folds on the top of the paper to reveal four small flaps. Fold each of these flaps in half along the center crease, then fold them down along the outer edge of the smaller pyramid. Flip the paper over and fold the bottom edge up along the center crease, then fold it up again along the outer edge of the smaller pyramid. Open the folds on the bottom of the paper to reveal four more flaps. Fold these flaps in half along the center crease, then fold them up along the outer edge of the smaller pyramid. Carefully open the folds on the top of the paper again and push up on the center of the smaller pyramid to make the umbrella open. To close the umbrella, push down on the center of the smaller pyramid and gently close the folds on the top and bottom of the paper. Optional: You can use glue to secure the flaps and make the umbrella more sturdy, but be careful not to glue the folds together so that the umbrella can still open and close.
