Many documentaries and videos during the past decade have portrayed the estate in a very negative context, focusing on the deprivation and antisocial problems of Jaywick and it's near non-existent infrastructure and decaying accommodation. This negative coverage is certainly not a full scale mistruth. Upon arrival into the estate, which is near to the larger town of Clacton-on-sea, I was shocked at the level of social deprivation and crumbling and rotten dwellings. I had, however, been told by others who had visited Jaywick of a wonderful sense of community and old-fashioned values amongst the residents. I had to visit for myself and meet the locals.
