Michel Gondry does what he did with action thrillers in his Smirnoff spot to video games, setting his protagonist on the run among Tony Hawk, FIFA, aliens, M.J., Lara Croft, a T-rex who freely bites a tennis player’s head off* because this is a French ad, you name it. Ready Player One who? Directed by Gondry at Partizan Midi-Minuit, with animation by BUF. *A 30-second version of this ad aired in the UK. The way this scene was cut was only a few frames of blood were visible after the tennis player’s head was bitten off, then flash to all the characters running after the player.
