Female wrestlers in bright skirts, braids and bowler hats, throwing each other over their heads and mimicking fights. Such spectacular lucha libre shows are very popular in Bolivia. Despite the fact that the performances are pre-planned, the women in the ring do receive real injuries. As a rule, girls from poor Indian tribes perform in the lucha libre. These staged fights are a way to earn a living for their families. On National Bolivian Women’s Day, watch our film The Good, The Bad and the Loco (2017) about the performers’ lives.
