🇱🇾 Clashes in Tripoli Armed clashes between the 444th brigade and the Al-Rada Special Deterrence Force took place in the Libyan capital Tripoli. Both paramilitaries are under the control of the Government of National Unity. The conflict began after the arrest of the head of the 444th brigade, Mahmoud Hamza, by al-Rada forces under the leadership of Abd ar-Rauf Kara at Mitiga airport, from where the Libyan military leader was preparing to fly by plane to Misurata. His fighters made an attempt to free the commander. Throughout the night from August 14 to 15, fighting was going on in the southern districts of the city with the use of light and medium weapons. Through the mediation of the city’s sheikhs, Mahmoud Hamza was handed over to the Stabilization Assistance Force, who later released him. As a result of the clashes, 55 people were killed and 146 were injured. Such incidents are not new to Libya. Field commanders and armed groups operate in the country, only formally subordinate to local administrations and having their own interests in the areas controlled by them.
