It’s pancake week in Russia (yes, that’s a thing), or Maslenitsa as it’s called. So in celebration, an ‘art park’ in Russia’s Kaluga Region has decided to mark the occasion in the only way it knows how: setting fire to a giant pile of stuff. The ‘Black Mountain’ might look like a bonfire made of random bits of waste, but to the trained eye it’s an artwork made out of eco-friendly materials (that just happen to be waste). Or at least, it was. Visitors to the Nikola-Lenivets art park were able to enjoy some delightfully lo-fi rides and climb the giant pile of art, before it was set on fire, which was apparently also art. As a reminder, this is celebrating the last week before Lent. Nikola-Lenivets is Russia’s largest art park and has been burning art since 2001.
