After pulling off the highway to observe the pulsing green aurora in rural SD, I shut my car engine off and heard buzzing and chirping. I initially thought the noise was being created by birds, which would have been very unusual for the middle of the night. Upon further investigation the sound seemed to be emanating from nearby powerlines or barbed wire fencing. In one instance, it almost seemed like the noise was synced with the quick pulses of aurora. I've taken photos around powerlines and fences for years but had never heard this before, and I suspect the disturbance of the G3 storm could be the culprit. Temperatures were just below freezing and winds were light and variable to calm. I did come across an account of someone else hearing similar sounds during a geomagnetic event, and they seem strikingly similar.
