There seems to be two opposing camps. One that condemns deployment of Kenya’s police to be the Blackface of US imperialism in Haiti, and one that says an intervention is necessary to quell the instability. In this video featuring African Stream’s William Sakawa and Salifu Mack, African People’s Socialist Party Chairman Omali Yeshitela pulls back the veil on what exactly is happening in the Caribbean nation. The same European and U.S. forces that for months have not been able to find willing cannon fodder for another round of occupation are responsible for the dysfunction we see today in Haiti. The majority-Black country’s situation is not an accident, or due to a perceived inability of Africans to govern themselves. The first successful slave revolt that resulted in the first African Republic has had to be suppressed for over a century, says Yeshitela. Haiti is being punished for its freedom, and no amount of foreign boots on the island has solved the systemic problems created by the same powers that pretend to be concerned now. In recent times, when Haiti had a functional, popularly elected government led by President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, the US overthrew him and sent him packing to Africa, throwing the country into chaos. The US response to the confusion was to send a UN occupation force that killed tens of thousands of Haitians through cholera, alongside mass reports of rape, including that of children. It is no wonder Haitians are strongly against yet another foreign intervention. Kenya is merely Blackwashing Western imperialism by providing false solutions that do not address Haiti’s problems, namely destruction of the African island nation of Haiti to further Western interests.
