With the end of the New State dictatorship, it led to the creation of new national state parties to replace the state level parties that dominated the brazilian old republic. Well, this process led to the creation of the Brazilian Labour Party, PTB, in 1945, founded by supporters of President Getúlio Vargas. The new party absorbed the support of urban workers who had benefited from Vargas' social legislation. In its first convention, in September 1945, the PTB approved a bold program that would defend the expansion of labor rights in cities, the extension of these conquests to rural workers, land reform and the right to “peaceful“ strike. In 1965, through the AI-2, the PTB was extinguished by the Military Regime, as well as all the political parties that existed until then.
