The Bulls of Fire have many names; “Toros de Fuego, “Toros de fuegos artificiales”, or simply “Toritos” aka “little bulls”. Tultepec, a small town in the State of Mexico has fully embraced these spinning firework covered paper animals, to the point that over 500 will be lit on fire for this year’s 2018 Feria Nacional de la Pirotecnia, The Mexican National Pyrotechnic Festival. One of the craziest festivals I have ever been to. Every year just an hour north of Mexico City, Tultepec has this 10 day festival celebrating the patron saint of Fireworks, Juan de Dios. This community is known throughout the country for it’s homemade fireworks. Most families here have ties to the pyrotechnic industry, and it is evident, as many wear the scars of their work proudly. Originally from Spain, the Fire Bulls can be seen across Latin America under the name Vaca Locas or Crazy Cows.
