Spanish Harlem (Leiber-Spector) by Ben E. King, orchestra and chorus conducted by Stan Applebaum Prior to his Wall-of-Sound producing days, Phil Spector collaborated with the Jerry Leiber and (unbilled) Mike Stoller team in the writing of this first Ben E. King solo hit. It was on the charts simultaneously with the final Drifters-King release “I Count The Tears” and immediately preceded King’s classic “Stand By Me” (also included in this 1961 collection).
