In 1981 work officially started on what was to become a Grade 1 Listed Building in the City of London. This occasion was marked by a visit of the Queen Mother. My father Frank Barber was one of the members of the redevelopment committee who commissioned designs that would take Lloyd's into the 21st century and beyond. Richard Rogers, the architect selected, was already famous for the Pompidou Centre in Paris and this is arguably his most iconic and widely admired design. 's_building
