Students in Mount Baker Secondary School music program have loved being a part of the CBC Music Class Challenge since it began. Situated in Cranbrook BC, Mount Baker enrols 1000 students. Almost a third of them are in the music program, which features a 100 voice concert choir, two concert bands, an instrumental jazz ensemble, a music composition and technology course, and a vocal jazz ensemble. The school also is the home of Orange Door Studios, a music production label and course which helps develop young artists. In 2013 the class produced “The Good Ol’ Goats” who went on to become the overall runner-up in the inaugural CBC Searchlight contest. Grant Lawrence even came to celebrate, bringing with him a goat and a beetle, and leaving a bit of a mess behind! This year’s CBC Music Class entry is Mount Baker Vocal Jazz, performing “Stay” by Alessia Cara.
