On October 15, a new earthquake of magnitude 6.3 occurred in western Afghanistan. It came just a week after two strong tremors in the region killed more than 1,000 people. The epicenter was again located near the city of Herat, at a depth of 6 kilometers. It was followed 20 minutes later by an aftershock with a magnitude of 5.4. At least one person died and about 100 people were injured. 7 hours later, an earthquake of magnitude 5.3 occurred in the Iranian province of Khuzestan. The epicenter was at a depth of 13 kilometers, 22 kilometers from the city of Ramhormoz. There were no reports of casualties.
