The dashing and charismatic Robin Hood, along with his friend Little John, steal from the rich to give to Friar Tuck and the poor living near Sherwood Forest. One day, after Robin Hood returns some money to a family taxed by the Sheriff of Nottingham, he ends up at the castle of the lovely Maid Marian, his childhood sweetheart. There, he enters into an archery tournament held by the perfidious Prince John and his advisor Sir Hiss. After winning the tournament and denouncing Prince John as the Phony King of England, there is a romantic party in the forest, where Robin and Marian fall in love once more. In retaliation for Robin Hood’s actions, Prince John triples taxes and imprisons the townspeople, forcing Robin Hood and his friends into action to save the day in the name of the true King Richard. The Sheriff of Nottingham was originally intended to be portrayed as a goat. • The song “Love,” by George Bruns and Floyd Huddleston, was nominated for an Academy Award.
