Hello everybody, this is “Caruso“ a song composed in 1986 by the Italian singer-songwriter Lucio Dalla and dedicated to the equally Italian tenor, Enrico Caruso. The song is inspired by the death of the great Italian tenor Enrico Caruso, and talks about the pain and longings of a man who, being about to die, looks into the eyes of a girl very dear to him. As Lucio Dalla explained in an interview published by “Il Corriere della Sera“,the song was inspired by the stories about Enrico Caruso's death told by the owners of a Sorrento hotel where he stayed once he was forced to make a stopover there with his ship. Dalla spent the night in the same room where, many years before, Caruso had spent some of his last days. The hotel owners told him about the passion that Caruso felt at that time for a young woman to whom he was giving singing lessons. Enrico Caruso, a great opera legend, was one of the greatest and most sought after singers during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
