India and China have disengaged at Patrolling Point-15 in the Gogra-Hotsprings area of Eastern Ladakh – a region that saw both Asian giants come to the brink of war in 2020. The disengagement comes after a consensus was reached in the 16th round of commander-level talks between China and India. According to China, the disengagement in an important flashpoint in Eastern Ladakh “is conducive to maintaining peace and tranquillity in the border areas.” Tensions between India and China have been simmering for over two years now. In 2020, the Indian and Chinese armies even clashed violently, which resulted in several casualties on both sides. But now, China seems to be wanting peace.
