Twelve F-22 Raptors of the US Air Force depart the UK for a deployment to the Middle East in response to trouble in the region. Two C17 Globemasters are also featured transporting equipment, and fighter jets based at RAF Lakenheath. Twelve F-22 Raptor Advanced Tactical Fighters from Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska stopped at RAF Lakenheath on Tuesday, 6th August, before then departing on Thursday, 8th August. The air superiority fighter jets, built to be stealthy, are being deployed to the Middle East as part of the US government's response to rising tensions in the region. A Carrier Strike Group, an Amphibious Ready Group, other aircraft, and assets are also being deployed. Hundreds of aviation enthusiasts and interested parties gathered at the RAF Lakenheath viewing area on the Suffolk/Norfolk border to watch the 5th generation fighter planes take off. The aircraft departed on Thursday morning. Various F15 Strike Eagles and F35 Lightning IIs based at RAF Lakenheath also departed for local training. The deployment of F22s is being supported by KC-46 Pegasus fuel tankers and C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft (seen at the end).
