Today we are walking through the Sears department store located at The Florida Mall. This is the last Sears store in Orlando Florida. Sears is an American chain of department stores founded by Richard Warren Sears and Alvah Curtis Roebuck in 1892. Through the 1980s, Sears was the largest retailer in the United States. Walmart and Kmart surpassed Sears in sales in 1990. After several years of declining sales, Sears parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on October 15, 2018. As of March 28, 2021, there were 57 Sears stores remaining. As of April 2024, there were 11 Sears stores remaining, with 10 in the mainland US and one location in the US territory of Puerto Rico.
