Learn how a vet examines a dog's mouth under anaesthesia. This is a very important process ensuring that no diseased areas under the gumline are missed. A vet will use the same process for dogs, cats, horses and pocket pets (of course horses are sedated standing). Each tooth is examined individually and the gumline is checked for signs of gingivitis and periodontal disease. Radiographs are often taken. Don't be fooled by proponents of anaesthesia free dentistry. This is a cosmetic practice and only removes tartar from the crown. It is impossible to do a proper job.
