The new Kia Sportage has broken cover. This all-new alternative to the likes of the Volkswagen Tiguan, Hyundai Tucson and Nissan Qashqai will come with a completely new design, a modern interior and a broad range of engines – including hybrids – when it goes on sale before 2022. The old Sportage had a grille inspired by a tiger’s nose – well, according to Kia at least… The new car looks arguably less like a wild animal, but it’s still plenty sporty for a family SUV. The first thing you’ll notice are probably those pointy daytime running lights, followed by the heavily creased doors and angular side skirts with flashes of chrome trim. From the side, sections of the Kia Sportage’s rearmost pillars have been painted black and come with bright silver trim to make it look like the roof ‘floats’ above the rest of the car’s body. This probably won’t fool too many people, but it does help to make the car look a little less bulky from behind.
