On the eve of the 25th Churkin Moscow International Model UN (C-MIMUN) held from April 14 to 19, 2024, Mr. Vladimir Grachev, renowned Soviet and Russian diplomat and former senior official of the UN Secretariat, visited his alma mater and gave a one-hour interview to Kirill Barsky, Head of the MGIMO Department of Diplomacy and Daniil Chenib, C-MIMUN Secretary General. He served as an advisor to five UN Secretary Generals and was involved in the UN peacekeeping both in New York and in UN field missions. Mr. Grachev’s rich experience and endless inside stories that he shared with the audience highlighted complexity of the UN Secretariat mechanism, specific role of the UN Secretary General and his relationship with Member-States. His exciting talk is a truly unique source of information and motivation for those students who dream about becoming diplomats and working at Permanent Missions to the UN or at the UN Headquarters.
