It is difficult to imagine what the electron might look like. The solution to the Schrödinger equation tells us that the electron is a wave, and the square of this wave function, the probability density, illustrates where the electron is most likely to be found around the nucleus of the atom if measured. This visualization shows the electron clouds of hydrogen through the probability density function when the principal quantum number, N, is between 1 and 6. In this video red indicates high probability, blue indicates low probability, but it is always normalized to the largest value in each individual distribution. All orbitals are on the same scale.
