The only recording of the first 1903/04 version of the Concerto. Until people need a special permission from the Sibelius estate to play or record the 1st Version. Kavakos won the Sibelius Violin Competition in 1990 with his definitive 1905 version. There was no solo mike for the recording so the violin gets buried under the orchestra. I've tried to make the violin more prominent here. Unless Sibelius had revised the Concerto, it would have remained a side note in literature. I estimate 1 out of 10 soloists who can perform the definitive version faultlessly could do the same with the 1st version, and many of them would today be in China actually.
