A House from Forest Sticks - Full Build - Hamer of Ethiopia

Recorded in a remote corner of southern Ethiopia, this house, known locally as a 'gata' is mostly used for accommodation away from the village, where they grow subsistence crops. The family will gradually thicken it over a number of years until it becomes substantial and fully rainproof. We managed to capture a family moving their house to a new location, which they do periodically to get rid of rotten and termite eaten timbers. Filmed in Southern Ethiopia in 2023.
