British cancer surgeon Dr Nick Maynard, who has worked in Gaza, shared his experiences during a press conference at the United Nations, saying he saw ‘things at Al-Aqsa Hospital which I still wake up at night thinking about’. Maynard, along with a high-level delegation of doctors, is urging the UN for greater support to improve health care in the region. Israel has bombarded Gaza since Hamas' 7 October attack in which more than 1,200 people, including an estimated 30 children, were killed and over 200 hostages taken, according to the Israeli government. Nearly 32,000 people of which 12,300 are children, have been killed in Israel's retaliatory onslaught, according to Palestinian health officials, with thousands more feared lost under the rubble. The 7 October attack was a significant escalation in the long-standing conflict between Israel and Hamas. After meetings at the UN, the delegation plans over the next three days to meet with the Biden administration and the US Congress in Washington DC.
