Why the problems Alex Belfield caused to others will linger. A brief look at the Catholic priest, Cure d’Ars (st John Vianney). This is why the bravery of his victims, Jeremy Vine, Bernie Keith, Spedding, Philip Dehany and Ben Hewis is to be commended and why they and their familes need our support long after Belfield finishes his sentence. This is also a trumpet call to social media/reality TV to clean up its act and be nicer. It is a call to the new minister of DCMS to lead the way gloabally and set up proper support for performers, protection for viewers and regulation for platforms and producers. The Rt Hon Michelle Donelan needs to move fast to undo the damage done by the posturing, unprofessionalism and self-serving dither of her predecessor.
